From Student Musician to Proud Educator

Jayci and I began working together after she switched to french horn from trumpet in the 7th grade—watch as we catch up about the impact music has had in her life, and how she found her musical career.

What People are Saying:

  • "I had the opportunity to take private French Horn lessons with Madelyn while attending The University of Alabama from 2014-2018. Madelyn is an AMAZING teacher who is both extremely detail oriented and a problem solver, ensuring student success. During my time studying with her, she also helped me grow socially and emotionally so that I wasn't just growing as a musician, but as a person."

    — Juliana, student

  • "My daughter, Jayci, a fledgling young French Horn player, started weekly lessons with Madelyn when she was in 7th grade and Madelyn was a college sophomore. Rather than sit in the car during the lessons, I observed this very young and very talented musician and teacher encourage my daughter to reach well beyond the expected level of performance of a junior high student. Madelyn introduced her to proper technique, practice methods, music theory, etudes and challenging pieces that built her repertoire and strengthened her skills. She even taught Jayci how to care for and maintain her horn. Madelyn coached and cheered for Jayci through the years as she was selected for numerous honors, including placement in the Kentucky "All State" orchestra. I attribute my daughter's successes to the very able instruction that she received from Madelyn. I absolutely and without any hesitation recommend her for your French Horn student as well. Oh, and Jayci? She attended college on a four year music full scholarship and is now teaching music to students in Louisville, Kentucky, while she works toward her Master's degree."

    — Gail, parent

  • "Madelyn is an outstanding teacher with a lot of experience working with students at a variety of levels. She works very well with younger students who are in the early stages of development, and with advanced players who are moving towards a potential professional career. She is a talented and dedicated teacher with great diagnostic skills and a keen understanding of how to correct problems. She did excellent work in the horn studio at The University of Alabama while in residence as a graduate student, and I am very pleased to offer her a strong recommendation. She will provide an excellent experience for any student choosing to work with her."

    — Skip, former teacher

  • "Madelyn was my favorite teacher, and she really helped me develop my own voice as a musician. She has a deep understanding of pedagogy and music history, and she combines that knowledge with great interpersonal skills and compassion. I always left lessons feeling like I finally sounded like my ideal self on the horn. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to further their development as a horn player and as a musician!"

    — Kathryn, student
